A rare I c. A.D. military fibula with a wolf head appliqué on the foot. The arch is openworked.
The presence of the wolf head can be explained in two ways, either as a symbol of the Roman Lupa Capitolina, the she-wolf which suckled Romulus and Remus, This fibula shape, known as aucissa, is considered as specific of the military domain.
