Greek Seated Kore Ex-Voto

 
 

 

   Fine votive figure of a kore (young lady) on a high back seat, wearing a polos.

   The figure was painted in red and white, some remaining. The origin is Tarent - Southern Italy, and the period is Early Classical Greece.

   For similar examples see the Catalogue Raisonné of the Louvre (S.Mollard Besques, 1954), figure B389 for the general composition,
   and B523 for exactly similar face features.

   Material : Beige Orange Terracotta, some white and red painting remaining
   Provenance : ex. Drouot Auction House, expertised, formerly Mariaud de Serres, Paris
   Origin : Tarent (Italy), Magna Graecia
   Period : early V c. B.C.
   Dimensions : Height. : 10,6 cm
