Etruscan Terracotta Votive Head of a Woman

Terracotta ex-voto woman bust showing classical, stereotyped features.
Terracotta moulded body parts, and especially fine heads, have been found in Etruscan sanctuaries, and believed to be ex-votos.

The woman or youg lady - kore - is wearing a veil on the back of her head. Some terracotta votive heads were put on top of a lifesize terracotta body.
"Etruscan votive heads appear in the sanctuaries of the kourotrophic goddess in the last quarter of the 6th century B.C. The votive heads reflect the same
stylistic characteristics that occur in mold made antefixes and they are probably made in the same workshops. Such votive heads may have served as thank
offerings to the goddess for medical treatment." (Etruscan Art Virtual Museum)
