Visigothic Carved Capital

   
 

 

   Small sandstone capital of Visigothic Spain.
   Developing, along with Byzantine architecture, on the roots of Roman and classical architecture, Visigothic architecture revealed its genius on the VII-VIII c.,
   before the muslim invasion. Its influence on Romanesque as well as oriental architecture was important.

   On a display stand, the capital has a perfectly preserved face and two partially conserved face.

   Material : Sandstone
   Origin : Probably Spain - Ex. Australian Antiquities Dealer
   Period : V-VI c.A.D.
   Dimensions : H : 12 cm (without stand)
