Ostrogothic Silver Military Strap-End

A belt or strap-end in the Roman tradition of 'amphora-shaped' military strap-ends. The style of the artefact is Ostrogothic, with curled-waves typical of the V th. c. The human head terminal is also Ostrogothic, similar examples illustrated by Ostrogothic buckle plates.

The two stylised feline shapes that seem to swallow the head are typical or Roman or Roman-Germanic ornamentation of the 4-5 c.A.D. military domain.

Strap-ends of the amphora family are generally regarded as military, and point to a Roman-Germanic auxiliary soldier.
