Large Ostrogothic Bronze Brooch

   
 

 

   Impressive and rare Gothic brooch.
   Fan tailed with ocelles ornamentation and large, radiated head. Iron pin is missing.
   before the muslim invasion. Its influence on Romanesque as well as oriental architecture was important.

   As opposed to Roman functional fibulas, such brooches were worn in pair,
   as decorative and symbolic accessory on the lower/ central part of the woman's dress.

   Material : Bronze, brown patina
   Origin : Eastern Europe - Ex. British Antiquities Dealer
   Period : VI-VII th c. A.D.
   Dimensions : height : 14,4 cm - Width : 7,3 cm
