A Frankish cloisonné belt mount. Made of bronze with six shaped garnets around a central stone, now missing.
The cloisonné style, an ornementation technique covering the surface of items with garnets or glass inlays separated only by small "cloisons"
Most garnets used to decorate early cloisonné pieces originate from Sri Lanka - an early example of international trade.
