Typical of venetian manerism at the end of the XVI th c., this figure show the king of gods in a sinous, yet uncomfortable contraposto attitude, one foot resting on a stylised eagle, and the right hand holding the traditional attribute of Jupiter, bolts of thunder.
The bronze thick, dark patina hiding some of the modeling, very slightly chiseled, as can be expected in a piece of this period. Some spots are pluged holes used for maintaining the inner core in the melting process.
While the attitude is inspired by Alessandro Vittoria's art, the figure is close to figures produced at the end of the century in Girolamo Campagna's workshop.
Originally paired with a figure of Juno. Mounted on a beautiful stand in yellow Sienna marmor.
