A lot of Medieval enameled artefacts from the U.K. The lot comprises :
- a casket hinge or pendant in the shape of two eagles. Three of the four wings are broken. The heads were decorated with blue enamel inlays for the eyes, only two of four remaining. The style as well as the enamel inlays are typcial Limoges or Limoges style (XIII c.). Traces of gilding remaining
- a buckle plate with the Holy Tomb of the Christ, with only the plate remaining, end of XII c. The loss of the gilding makes it difficult to read, though 80% of the enamel is remaining. The decoration is the Holy Tomb of the Christ. An arch with two columns and capitals is the above the Shroud, shown in beautiful two color enamel (typical end XII c.). Under the arch, a round object like a censer is attached to a cord. A similar representation of the Holy Tomb is shown on a late XII c. casket formerly in the Keir collection. The enamel work is Limoges in style.
- a rectangular XIV or XV c. plate with lesser quality enamel in white and blue. The plate is inscribed with letters (I V ?). No gilding remaining.
