Limoges XIII c. Christ Head
 

     
 

 

   A fine Christ head broken from a complete Christ figure of Limoges mounted on a procession or altar cross.
   The style is early XIII c. (probably 2nd quarter of the XIII c.). The eyes were filled with blue enamel, one remaining.

   This head was probably broken in the XVI c. at the time of the violent destruction of monasteries in Britain, for religious, political and economic reasons.

   Material : Gilt bronze, blue enamel (for the eye)
   Period : early XIII c.
   Dimensions : H. : 3,9 cm
