Carved Romanesque Pilaster

A rare and large size pilaster of the XI-XII c.

Each side, except for the back, is decorated similarly. A central flower with four petals emerge from a central stalk, flanked by two rinceaux, terminated on top
by a crochet, and at bottom by a palm.

The upper part (tailloir) is rectangular and holds a register of triangles in relief. Some traces of polychromy are still visible.

This pilaster is a rare testimony of romanesque architectural carving. Carved in a soft limestone, this pilaster is in medium state of conservation.
The left side still holds vivid carving, while the right side is more worn out.
