Late XIV c. Bronze Bishop Reliquary Mount

 

 

   A nice small bronze mount in the shape of a bishop, covered with a mitre and a halo, holding a crozier, which top is broken. The bishop seems
   to be looking down to the left.

   The figure is from cast and chased bronze. The size and the nature is consistent with a reliquary mount. The halo, as well as the crozier staff, and perhaps the item
   in his right hand, have been cast separately then joigned to the main figure.

   Very comparable figures can be found on a New York Metropolitan Museum of Art German pendant from the medieval period. (see below)

   The statuette is displayed on a plexiglas mount.
