Art Nouveau stoneware sculpture after the medieval girl at window from the Strasbourg chancellery portal by Nicolas von Leyde (XV c.)
This fine stoneware lifesize "bust" originates from the workshop of Jean Carriès, the great French sculptor of the end of the XIX c. (1855-1894)
His stoneware technic, called "email gras", gives an unprecedented realism to the sculpture, especially the flesh.
Excellent conservation. One finger tip is missing. Small cracks on the back. Unsigned.
